A little bit of history:
Evolving Perceptions (EP) was founded in 1996. The mission of EP is to serve as a support organization for Iranian and Iranian-American artists. The first EP exhibition took place in Reston, Virginia, at Ovissi Studios, the following one (1997)was at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The first two exhibitions were supported by the Iranian American Cultural Association of Washington DC (IACA). Last year&Mac226;s exhibition (1999) took place at 505 Gallery on 7th street, Washington DC.
2000 will mark EP&Mac226;s 4th Annual Exhibition. Volunteers of EP have worked hard with supporting organizations and artists to keep EP alive. Currently, EP is under the leadership of Saghar Barzmehri, a Washington DC based artist . Saghar along with other artists in the steering committee have been working together to create important and much needed support.
The Vision for the Future
First of all, we are looking to have EP be a gathering point for Iranian and Iranian-American artists in the Washington DC area. Monthly gatherings, gallery and museum visits have been organized already and we would like to provide more opportunities for Iranian and Iranian- American artists in the Washington area to gather and network as well as create collaborative projects to benefit and educate the entire community at large.
Secondly, EP is trying to develop opportunities to provide scholarships and exchange programs with artists from Iran. From this perspective, EP is collaborating with galleries in Tehran to bring 150 artworks of 50 famous Iranian artists residing in Iran to go to a tour in New York, California and Washington DC.
