He finished medical school at Shiraz University in 1962 with the highest grades. He is the recipient of the International Scholar Award, Research to Prevent Blindness, Inc.
He has held numerous appointments such as:
Professor and Chief, Department Of Ophthalmology, Shiraz University School of Medicine
Instructor, Assistant Professor and Visiting professor in Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Institute and John Hopkins University
Professor, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Yale University School of Medicine.
