ZAHRA ALMUFTI
Zahra is an accomplished artist who primarily paints with acrylics on canvas. Her paintings have been likened to stained glass windows, enamel paintings and jewels. Zahra is inspired by infinite pattern that lead to the external. Painting, for her, is the embroidery of different states of being, a visual record of the exquisite patterns of our spiritual essence.
" My paintings are a log of the ecstasies, the celebration of our boundless spiritual nature revealing itself in physical form. Painting is metaphysical happiness in physical awareness" Zahra Almufti
FAY AFAF KANAFANI
Now in her 80s, Fay is far from slowing down. She has been using art as a means of expressing her unique spirit. Born in 1918 in Beirut, Lebanon, Fay moved to the U.S. in 1995. She has taught herself one of the most difficult mediums, digital computer technology. She says, "it is exciting to discover the computer as a free-hand art tool". The three categories of art currently showcased at the Gallery will be her floral, landscape and figure series.
Mrs. Kanafani has also written her autobiography "Nadia, Captive of Hope, Memoir of an Arab Woman", which she will read from on Saturday, September 16, 2000 at 8 p.m.
